Award- Winning Program Turns 11
FLORENCE –The Intergenerational Writers Guild (IWG) begins Saturday, September 11 at 10am. The free creative writing class will meet at the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library - 250 N. Wood Avenue every other Saturday through May 21, 2011.
At the recent Founder’s Day celebration the IWG founder and teacher, Dr Dorothy Cal Hardy received special recognition from the State of Alabama House of Representatives in the form of a Resolution, presented by State Rep. Tammy L. Irons, that offered its highest tribute for outstanding achievement and dedicated service to the community.
During the past ten years 600 students have enrolled in IWG classes. Some beginning writers have gradually improved their writing skills to write family, hometown and church histories; magazine article series; short stories; letters to the editor; essays, and four students have published books.
