Bluegrass Up Highway 43
The 23rd Semi-Annual Summertown Bluegrass Reunion and Music Festival is underway. The Festival is located on Highway 240 in Summertown, TN, 1/2 mile west of US Hwy 43. It is sixty miles south of Nashville and fifty miles north of Florence.
Fun-filled days and nights include stage shows, instrument vendors, craft booths, jamming, clogging, a shade tree band contest, buck dancing contests, square dancing, twostepping, waltzing and line dancing. They come from everywhere. Bring your musical instruments, dancing shoes, lawn chairs and sit back and enjoy all the shows, crafts, foods, friends, booths, dancing and good bluegrass music. The campground opened for campers on Saturday, August 28 and the 125 camp sites filled quickly.
Thursday, September 2 is FREE admission night for everyone. This is the time to take advantage of the good catfish supper at 5pm and bring the family. Other fixings are available for the kids and the kids-at-heart throughout the three days of the festival: ice cream, popcorn, hot dogs, hamburgers, soft drinks, beans and BBQ and you can enjoy the open stage and jamming as the music floats all over the park each day and night.
On Friday, September 3, the Stage Shows begin at 7pm. Admission is $6. As always, there is a free drawing with your ticket stub. On this night a beautiful, handmade quilt will be given away to a lucky winner. The stage shows begin on Saturday, September 4 at 12pm. Admission is $8.
Also on Saturday, the "Buck Dance" contest begins at 5pm with prize money in first, second, and third place in each of the following categories: Lil Doll - 10 years and under, Jr. Dance - 11 through age 35 and Senior dance - 36 and over. The winners are determined by audience ballot ticket stub.
The stage show breaks at 4pm for supper break, which gives everyone a chance to listen to all The Shade Tree Band pickers thoughout the park. Prize money totals $450. Winners are determined by audience ballot ticket stub. The Stage Show starts back up at 7pm and goes until 11pm.
