Sheffield H.S. Band Has Invite for D.C.

2010-09-01 / Community

SHEFFIELD–Marching bands traditionally have been limited to a performance in a football stadium or along a parade route. Though these venues do a nice job showcasing marching bands, the Sheffield High School Band has received a prestigious invitation to do something more.

The Sheffield High School Band, under the direction of Dr. Eric Kirkman, has been invited to represent the State of Alabama with a performance on the lawn of America’s first home, the White House. This invitation was offered based on Sheffield’s unprecedented field show victory record and the academic performances of Sheffield band members.

On Columbus Day weekend in October of 2010, the Sheffield High School Band will post the Alabama state flag and take the field in a combined opening ceremony performance of the National Anthem, then await their turn to provide a performance of a lifetime to an enthusiastic audience and our honored adjudicators. The event will award the top four bands as well as recognizing sections and soloists prior to the crowning of the Grand Champion by presentation of the esteemed “Marching Band Cup.”

Fundraising efforts are vigorously underway to help the Sheffield Band accept this invitation. To make a contributory donation to the band, checks may be mailed to P.O. Box 429, Sheffield, AL 35660.
