Gene Allen Darby, 82, of Florence, AL

Gene Allen Darby, 82, of Florence, AL, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2010 at Glenwood Healthcare Center. He was an active member of the Central Church of Christ, and served in the US Army during the Korean War.

Visitation will be from 1 – 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2010, at Greenview Funeral Home with the funeral service following at 3 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel. Officiating will be Brother Larry Murdock assisted by Joey Mustain.  Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park with military honors.

Mr. Darby was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Willie McFalls Darby; first wife, Carlene Darby; brothers, Glenn and Ross Darby; sisters, Ruth Reynolds, Ruby Davis, Nadine Holt, and Willadean Gandy.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Llewellyn Darby; children, Debbie Lawson (Dwayne), Steve Darby (Linda); grandchildren, Kim, Russ, and Stephanie; brother, Bill Darby (Mary); step-children, Dwight Llewellyn (Donna), Donnie Llewellyn (Teresa); several nieces and nephews with one special nephew, Bobby Darby (Sue); special brother-in-law, William “Pete” Kelley; granddaughter, Karen Mustain; great granddaughter, Mattilyn Kelley Herndon; special grandson, Brian Llewellyn, “my hunting buddy”; great grandsons, Brodie and Maddox Llewellyn, Austin Jordan, and Adison Burns.

Pallbearers will include, Brant Llewellyn, Justin Llewellyn, Larry Young, Eddie Walker, Tommy Wallace, and Rex Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers will be William “Pete” Kelley, Tommy White, Richey Thornton, Charles Dewberry, and Wayne Cockburn.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Daugherty, Dr. Patel, Dr. Holden, Dr. Hagler, Dr. Webb, and the nursing staff at Glenwood Healthcare Center.
