Lion Players Listed on Elite Squads

FLORENCE -- Almost two months after their 2011 season ended, members of the University of North Alabama football team continue to receive recognition. In the latest awards announced Thursday, three UNA players were named to the 2011 D2Football.com All- America Team. Five players were chosen for the 2011 Don Hansen Division II Football

All-America team.

Senior offensive tackle Kyle

Thornton was named first-team

All-American by D2Football.com, while senior defensive back

Janoris Jenkins was named second-team All-

American. Senior linebacker

Marcus Dowtin received an honorable mention.

On Don Hansen’s Football Gazette All-American Team, Thorton and Jenkins were first-team picks, with Jenkins chosen as a return specialist. Dowtin was a third-team selection as linebacker. Senior quarterback Lee Chapple and senior center Jamie Dixon of Muscle Shoals were honorable mention picks.

Thornton, Jenkins and Dowtin were all selected for the Daktronics, Associated Press, D2Football.com and Don Hansen All-American teams, while Thornton was also named All-American by the American Football Coaches Association.

Jenkins Named to Senior Bowl

UNA cornerback Janoris Jenkins was also invited to play in the Senior Bowl all-star game January 28 in Mobile. He becomes the fourth UNA player to play in the Senior Bowl, joining Daryl Smith (1984), Lewis Billups (1985) and Marcus Keyes (1995).
