Recovery or Ruin?

2012-01-25 / Letters to the Editor

Dear Sir

I noticed that the Obama White House has denied a permit for construction of the Keystone pipeline, costing thousands of jobs and further increasing dependence on countries like Iran. This on the heels of an USAF decision to ship thousands of jobs to Brazil for construction of a military aircraft.

It makes one wonder whether government emphasis is on economic recovery or ruin. Some critics of the Keystone project have complained that the prime contractor was allowed to produce the environmental impact statement, therefore, it could not be objective. Having authored some of these documents and reviewed countless others it is my conclusion that most are useless trash, regardless of who the preparer may be.

The environmental nuts objected to the Alaska pipeline on the same basis as Keystone (destruction of animal habitat) and negative impact on animal population. The opposite has occurred and the pipeline has become a Mecca for animals seeking succor during harsh winter conditions. The destruction of America’s economy by incompetent politicians cannot be condoned and it is the responsibility of, “ We the People “ to fix it. This is not a partisan issue. The competence of officials that we hire (elect) must be our major concern. The first step is to make it clear that they work for us and are subject to performance review. Poor performance will result in dismal, regardless of party affiliation.
