This past school year I was a long-term substitute teacher for five weeks at a “high needs” 88.3% minority middle school. During this time our Pledge of Allegiance was given in the first period. I always chose to quickly move directly in front of our US flag with my 29 eight-graders behind me. This position was to avoid their seeing the many students who chose to remain seated.
I hope these students and their families in this sanctuary city watched the recent D-Day ceremonies.
