Dear Editor:

Please allow me to share with your readers a statement that I believe reveals what is happening in our country.

The statement is from a very old book entitled, “The Two Babylons.” It was written by Alexander Hislop in the mid-1800s. Dr. Hislop was writing about a movement that had attempted to overrun righteousness, or right-thinking, since time immemorial. His subject was religious corruption or idolatry. I believe his words can also be applied to the politics of our day.

The quote reads, “Their primary object was to introduce privately, by little and little, under the seal of secrecy and the sanction of an oath, what it would not have been safe all at once and openly to propound.”

What did Hislop mean in that splendidly written statement? He meant that human society, which once stood on a righteous or Biblical foundation, was being intentionally and secretly corrupted. Immoral principles that once would have been immediately rejected by right-thinking people were being introduced secretly, by degrees, in order to corrupt society and overturn righteousness.

I happen to believe the Bible, and the prophecies that are contained in it. What we’re seeing today is the latest round of an age-old battle between piety and indecency that Hislop wrote about.
