Quilts on Display

Glenn Rikard

TUSCUMBIA – The annual Belle Mont Quilt Show is an exhibit of more than 20 antique quilts selected from the personal collections of Glenn Rikard and others.  It will be on display Wednesday, October 5–Saturday, October 29 at Belle Mont Mansion.  The historic house museum is located at 1569 Cook Lane, Tuscumbia. It will be open Wednesdays–Saturdays, 10am – 4pm.  Regular admission rates will apply.

There will also be a special presentation each Friday at 1pm.  Rikard will discuss the quilts being shown and conduct a guided tour of the display.  Individuals are invited to share quilts from personal

collections in a “show and tell” format during these programs.

Glenn Rikard was inspired to assemble his extensive quilt collection by the beautiful and colorful patterns made and quilted by loved ones in his own family.  His collection now numbers more than 150 quilts which illustrate popular patterns and fabrics. Some are more than 100 years old, and a number of these quilts will be part of the exhibit.

Belle Mont is one of Alabama’s most distinguished Federal period homes, built circa 1828.  It. Colbert County Historical Landmarks Foundation currently operates the museum, which is owned by the Alabama Historical Commission.
