Policy Council Bags a Warm Win

District Judge Chad Coker, his daughter Camille, and Sunrise Center director, Courtney McKinnon, with dozens of sleeping bags before distribution.

TUSCUMBIA – The Colbert County Children’s Policy Council recently collected 45 sleeping bags and some nutritional, easy-open food items for the homeless in the area.  Colbert County District Judge, Chad Coker, his daughter Camille, and Children’s Policy Council Interim Coordinator, Lee Cox, delivered the donations to the Sunrise Center in Sheffield Christmas week.

Director Marianne Leigh and the Sunrise staff were making arrangements to get the sleeping bags to those who needed them before the cold nights that descended in the days following.

Michelle Cornelius notified the TVA Retirement Association about the sleeping bag project and the Association made a large donation.

Rev. Danielle Thompson, Rector of Grace Episcopal Church in Sheffield, offered a prayer just prior to distribution for those who would be receiving the sleeping bags.
