FLORENCE - Caringplace, formally known as Westminster Interfaith Caring Place (WICP), is an adult day services center that cares for people with Alzheimer’s, dementia, and the frail elderly.

Caringplace was successfully operated at the Brandon Center for years. The nonprofit had invested close to $350,000 in necessary renovations to its section of the building when it was notified that the property had been purchased and their lease was being terminated.

The city of Sheffield has donated a suite at 216 Marengo Street in Florence that will allow Caringplace to reopen soon. They are renovating this facility as money becomes available. Approximately $16,000 in renovations are left to complete the center. Phase II of the reopening process is earning the first year’s operating expenses for the center. It will hopefully be completed during 2019.

The Murder Mystery Dinner Theater fundraiser for Caringplace takes place at George’s 217 in Sheffield on Thursday, May 9 beginning at 5:30pm. Doors open at 5pm. Food is provided by George’s Steak Pit. The menu is salad, roll, pork loin, creamed potatoes, steamed green beans, and strawberry cake. A cash bar will be available.

Murder at the Abbey (Downton Abbey) will be presented by the Jest Murder Mystery Company of St. Louis, Missouri.

You can choose to dress in period clothes as well! Tickets are $100 and are available at Tennessee Valley Art Center, Lola’s, Kennedy Douglass Art Center, First United Methodist Church of Florence, and First Presbyterian Church of Florence.
