FLORENCE–The City of Florence Gas & Water Department recently purchased 22 acres of land upstream from the city’s Cypress Creek drinking water plant to establish a greenspace buffer for the drinking water plant.

In addition, a portion of the property at AL-133 (Cox Creek Pkwy) and Jackson Road was developed as the Cypress Creek Canoe/Kayak Public Access Area. The access area includes paved parking for boaters and pedestrian access to the creek for launching canoes and kayaks as well as an area for local fishermen. This location is the only public access point for launching canoes and kayaks on Cypress Creek.

This project compliments the public exit point on Cypress Creek at Wildwood Park where the Water Department installed the only public exit point under a Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) grant several years ago.
