Y Opens New Wing

YMCA of the Shoals’ Chief Executive Officer, Lane Vines, left, accepts   congratulations  during the ribbon cutting event from Shoals Chamber of Commerce Director of Communications and Events, Olivia Bradford.

FLORENCE – The YMCA in Florence officially held a ribbon-cutting and grand opening for the new Youth Development Wing last week.  That added 13,000 square feet of space, a dedicated entrance for before-and-after school programs and summer day camp, and a drive-thru, drop-off / pick-up entrance with easy access to Helton Dr.

The YMCA has added additional child development programs during 2020 in response to COVID-19 and

the changing needs of the educational system. So, the opening is none too early.

This new childcare space will meet the growing needs of the Shoals community and fulfill the Y’s objective of Youth Development.  All the new spaces adhere to ADA regulations.

In addition, the new space supports the objectives of Healthy Living and Social Responsibility by providing two new group exercise rooms that bring the total group exercise space at the YMCA to over 6,000 square feet. The YMCA offers exercise equipment, private instruction, a full court gymnasium, an Olympic-sized pool, a leisure pool, and programs specific to cancer survivors, Parkinson’s patients, and individuals with hypertension.

The YMCA of the Shoals has served the community since 1966. Members come from northwest Alabama and southern Tennessee to participate in group exercise classes, use the extensive array of fitness equipment, and swim in one of the few indoor pools in the Shoals area.

The YMCA of the Shoals now offers over 70,000 square feet to the Shoals community to fulfill its mission of putting Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. The public is invited to tour the addition and get a full list of membership packages and amenities in celebration of the Y’s new wing.
