MUSCLE SHOALS – Jennifer Denton was recently named the Long-Lewis Hero of the Month for September.
Denton has campaigned for over 12 years to raise funds and awareness for childhood cancer research and treatment in memory of her 3 year-old son, Alex, who passed on Sept. 11, 2009 after a 14-month 14-month battle at St. Jude.
Denton and her husband, Brian, founded Alex’s Warriors and have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars so that another family will never have to hear the words, “Your child has cancer.” In addition, Jennifer is a frontline medical professional who has cared for our most vulnerable citizens throughout the entire COVID crisis. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, so it was an appropriate time to recognize Denton for her contributions.
Nominations for October are still being accepted on the Long Lewis of the Shoals Facebook page. Any local person who is heavily involved in community service may be considered.
