FLORENCE – Florence Mayor, Steve Holt, recognized and commended Billy Reid for his outstanding achievements in fashion and his influential investment in the fashion industry while bringing recognition to the Shoals area. His contributions continue to inspire both current and future fashion designers.

Billy Reid is an American fashion designer based in Florence, AL. His collection includes men’s, women’s, accessories, and eyewear.

Reid draws inspiration from the South and his childhood growing up in Amite, Louisiana where he worked as a young man in his mother’s clothing boutique.

Reid developed his career by working many years with companies such as Reebok, J. Crew, Neiman Marcus, and Coach. He also developed product for the first collections of Australian golfer, Greg Norman.

Friends approached Reid in 2004 with the idea for a unique retail business concept built around his aesthetic and a fully realized men’s collection, both called Billy Reid. The first Billy Reid shops opened in Dallas, Houston and Florence, where the store was located in an old home with Reid’s design studio upstairs.

Billy Reid has received honors such as 2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Prize, 2012 CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year, and 2017 Observer American Menswear Power List, and his brand has become international.
