FLORENCE – The timing was perfect for a few dozen officers of the Florence Police Department and their families last Wednesday. The last rainstorm of the day passed through town before the group left the police station on foot for the scheduled 2pm start.

The first annual Florence Police Department Memorial Run took participants through downtown to East Mobile Street, then east toward the Police Memorial at the bend of Tennessee St.

After arriving at the memorial and taking a brief break, officers and family members surrounded the memorial statue and markers, forming a circle along the brick walkway. They proceeded to perform four different exercises, one each to honor the four Florence police officers killed in the line of duty.

The memorial run was organized by Kevin Robinson in honor of all police brothers and sisters who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Participants completed the event by jogging back to the Police Department on Court Street. Cody Ticer, grandson of Steve Ticer, was among those who participated in the event.
