FLORENCE – Northwest Alabama Reading Aides (NARA) recently announced that Jim Green has joined the Board of Directors of the Alabama Literacy Alliance of Montgomery/Birmingham.
Green has been involved with Northwest Alabama Reading Aides for over ten years as a volunteer and as the Executive Director since 2010. Green will be representing NW Alabama on the state board. Its mission is to foster connections and partnerships throughout Alabama to advocate, coordinate, promote and support the effective delivery of literacy services to build productive literate citizens.
NARA is a non-profit United Way Agency that provides free one-on-one tutoring for adults to learn or improve reading skills. NARA has also partnered with the Adult Ed. Dept. Northwest-Shoals Community College to offer ESL classes in a group setting as well as conversational English classes that meet weekly.
Green is a former business owner with an extensive background in sales and marketing. He has a history of community service with non-profits including addressing animal cruelty while living in Boston, mainstreaming mentally challenged adults, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Special Olympics, and HASRA here in the Shoals.
