TUSCUMBIA – In light of the current coronavirus pandemic, the Oka Kapassa Board of Directors has decided to cancel the 2020 Oka Kapassa Return to Coldwater Festival. The board felt this is the best way to keep all Native American participants and adult and student attendees safe.
The Oka Kapassa Festival has grown immensely and hosts many events throughout Northwest Alabama sharing the art and culture of many Southeastern tribes and hosting over 1000 students annually from the tri-state area. The festival committee greatly appreciates the support of this community and the sponsors who have made this event possible for the past 19 years.
The board is diligently planning and looking forward to celebrating a milestone 20th event next year on September 10-11 in Tuscumbia with a wonderful homecoming and reunion of Alabama’s first people.
