FLORENCE — Chloe’s Fund received a $6,484 check last week at the Florence-Lauderdale Tourism office, the sum of the winning proceeds from the Shoals Tinsel Trail Christmas Tree decorating event. This is the second year for the Tinsel Trail, sponsored by Florence Lauderdale Tourism and features live trees sponsored by various organizations.
This year each sponsor selected a local charity or nonprofit. Lucky Dog and Bones, Beds and Biscuits sponsored the winning tree and it chose Chloe’s Fund as its designee.
The public voted on their favorite tree with proceeds from the Tinsel Trail going to the winner of the chosen charity or nonprofit.
Chloe’s Fund started in 2017 after shelter volunteers Glen and Debby Nelson lost their beloved dog, Chloe. They set out on a mission to help sick and injured animals at Florence-Lauderdale Animal Services. Debby runs the nonprofit.
The Tinsel Trail check will make a huge difference in providing for the medical needs of the animals. “We try so hard and it’s never-ending.” she said.
Fifty trees were entered in this year’s Tinsil Trail, and 1,787 votes were cast.
