FLORENCE - Ten students representing their respective schools recently participated in the Lauderdale County Spelling Bee using an online test platform developed by the National Spelling Bee officials.   The tests were proctored via zoom. The winner will advances to the State Spelling Bee.   Lauderdale County Teachers Credit Union sponsored the Spelling Bee providing the gift certificates for winners, and trophies from Florence Trophy Company.   Some schools did not participate because of the pandemic.

Claudette Fields, an 8th grader at St. Joseph Regional Catholic School is the First Place winner.  She is the daughter of David & Anu Fields.   

Lily Hatton, a 6th grader from Brooks Elementary School tied for second place.  She is the daughter of Paula & Jon Hatton.   

Lauren Sutherland, an 8th grader at Mars Hill Bible School also tied for second place.  She is the daughter of Josh & Danielle Sutherland. 

Other participants in the county event were Elizabeth Covey, grade 7, Central School; Trey Westbrook, grade 4, Lexington School; Sammy Gren, grade 5, Kilby Laboratory School; Leslie Ledezma, grade 3, Rogers School; Savannah Hanson, grade 6, Shoals Christian School;  Jessie Dempsey, grade 7, Waterloo School; Chloe Cummings, grade 6, Wilson School.
