PENSACOLA, FL – Officials with ESPN recently visited Pensacola, Florida to honor former Booker T. Washington standout and current North Alabama freshman, Jaila Roberts, as part of its ‘Hometown Hero’ series. Prior to signing with the UNA women’s basketball team in January, the 5-6 guard connected on a 64-foot buzzer-beater to lift her team to a one-point victory over rival Pine Forest.

The play was ranked No. 9 on ESPN’s Top 10 Plays on the Jan. 9 edition of SportsCenter. The network visited Pensacola on Thursday to film footage of Roberts who received a key to the city. The Hometown Hero series is set to debut on ESPN on October 10.

ESPN helped construct an outdoor version of the Wildcat’s home court for the episode. The floor now has Roberts’ named at half court along with the SportsCenter logo. There is a white circle painted at the spot she connected on the game-winning basket and the date of the shot now known as the 64’ Buzzer Beater.
