A Fine Performance Takes An Act of Congress

Acclaimed acoustic band Act of Congress

SHEFFIELD - Acclaimed acoustic band Act of Congress will perform their unique blend of roots music and pop at the Ritz Theatre on Saturday, February 25 at 7pm.

The evening is made possible by presenting sponsor Pettus Plumbing & Piping.  Tickets are $25 and are available now at tennesseevalleyarts.org or by calling 256-383-0533.

“Act of Congress is definitely not your typical acoustic singer-songwriter band,” said Mollie Holland, board chair for the Tennessee Valley Art Association, which runs The Ritz. “Their harmonies and melodies are unbelievable, playing genres that cover everything from soothing to rocking.  Seeing them live is an incredible experience you don’t want to miss,” she added.

The Birmingham-based band has released multiple albums and has toured the world as Cultural Ambassadors for the U.S. State Department. Act of Congress regularly performs with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra and has played for the likes of Disney, SXSW, NPR, Paste, and Billboard.

Holland is also the Director of Projects & Group Travel at the Colbert County Tourism & Convention Bureau.  She first started listening to the Act of Congress after meeting violinist/singer, Connie Skellie.  She has been a big fan ever since and is excited to help bring the band to the Shoals.  Holland indicated this performance is part of a larger plan to provide more high-quality concerts in the area’s great venues.

“I am excited for the future of the Ritz Theatre,” said Holland. “Our area is fortunate to have a jewel like The Ritz, and I hope visitors and locals alike take advantage of all it offers – plays, films, a monthly movie series, and a variety of concerts in the works.”
