FLORENCE – One of several special events related to this weekend’s 19th Annual Return to Coldwater Festival in Tuscumbia that are taking place this Thursday, September 12 is happening at the Florence Indian Mound Museum.
This special event will feature storyteller Amy Bluemel from 6-7pm.
Amy Bluemel (Chickasaw) is a gifted storyteller and educator whose appreciation for cultural awareness came early. Bluemel was raised in a military family. She lived in Germany, Okinawa, Turkey and Scotland before returning to her Chickasaw roots in America. Amy often performs with the dance troupe Chikashsha Hithla during nationwide tours. She shares Chickasaw customs with audiences of all ages through lively programs at schools, libraries, and museums across the country. She will be accompanied by other Chickasaw people demonstrating flute music and dance.
This is a free event sponsored by Florence Arts and Museums. It is made possible by the Oka Kapassa festival. The Florence Indian Mound Museum is open 10-4, Tuesday-Saturday and 1-4 on Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for students and children.
