FLORENCE – Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts will be open to host a Pumpkin Carving Party and Open Gallery Night on Saturday, October 24 from 3–7pm. The event is open to all ages. People are asked to bring their own pumpkins and favorite carving tools to the KD sculpture garden from 3–5pm to work on their pumpkin design. Templates suitable for all ages will be supplied.
There will be hot cider and fall brews from Singing River Brewery for visitors to enjoy while they create their pumpkin masterpiece. For those who wish to participate in a competition, prizes will be awarded for Best Pumpkin in two age categories: 15 years old and under, and 16 years old and above.
The carved pumpkins will be placed on display in the breezeway that evening for visitors to enjoy as they visit our art galleries during Open Gallery Night.
Two art exhibits, the Shoals Artist Guild Annual Members Show and WOOD + PAPER + INK: Woodcut prints and woodblock assemblage by Kent Ambler, will be on display between 5-7pm at Open Gallery Night: Visitors are invited to view the exhibits during these extended hours and meet a number of the Shoals Artist Guild members who will be present to answer questions about their work. The Shoals Artist Guild exhibit will include paintings in oil, watercolor, pastel, acrylic, and mixed media, it will remain up through November 20. South Carolina artist Kent Ambler’s exhibit features woodcut prints, sculptures, and woodblock collages. His show will be on display through December 28.
The art center observes safe distancing and limits visitors to eight people in each gallery at a time. All visitors are required to wear masks while viewing the exhibit.
