FLORENCE – The Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts will host artists Vann Dillon, Abbie Hyche, and Chris James on February 27 from 7-10pm as part of the Artist Gathering 2020. This is a recurring seasonal meeting of creative minds where artists of all ages, backgrounds, and mediums network, fellowship, and share ideas.
The three will be showing their new artwork that evening. Musicians Tom Risher and Kirk Russell will be performing improvisational sitar and drum music.
Vann Dillon works in monochromatic media.
“Drawing or painting in black and white creates a classical aura expressing deep moods,” he says, “The viewer focuses on light, form, and texture to define the image rather than relying on color.”
Abbie Hyche will be showing Multiverses, an audiovisual installation that juxtaposes images and sound from myriad environments. Vivid scenes are projected onto a variety of surfaces, giving the impression of being in multiple places at one time.
Chris James is a multidisciplinary artist based in Muscle Shoals. His current work moves between abstraction, surrealism and still life, with a nod to art history and design.
This event is hosted by Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts and will take place in the Southall - Moore building of the Art Center at 217 E. Tuscaloosa St. in Florence.
The event is free and open to the public. Call 256-760-6379 for more information.
