Miss Bronze Celebrates 50

SHEFFIELD – The 50th Miss Bronze Scholarship & Beauty Pageant and \ Parade takes place May 18-19.

The parade and reunion will be on Saturday, May 18 at 11:30am in downtown Sheffield.

The Miss Bronze Pageant takes place on Sunday, May 19 at the Clarion Hotel in Sheffield. It begins with a reception at 4:30pm honoring pageant founder, Sam Pendleton, all past directors, former contestants, and former winners. The pageant will begin at 5pm.

This year’s pageant will honor Pendleton who founded the pageant overs 50 years ago as a fundraiser for the Leighton Training School Science Club. He directed the pageant for several years before passing the torch to the Tophatter Club. Pendleton is a former city councilman for the City of Florence.

The Tophatters Social Club directed the pageant for many years before turning the reins over to the late Dwight Winston and Beverly Winston. After Dwight passed away, Beverly Winston turned over responsibility to Casey, Meccosia, and Diamond Eggleston, who have directed the pageant for the last eight years.

The many years of work invested by members of the Tophatters Social Club will also be recognized.

Tickets may be purchased from any contestant, Casey and Meccosia Eggleston, at Rhoda P Restaurant in Sheffield or Shalom Hair Salon in Florence. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for adults. A table of 8 is $150.

Proceeds go to the Miss Bronze Program, Miss Bronze Scholarship, the Excellent Award Program, and other community events.
