KILLEN – The Annual Killen Founder’s Day celebration takes place Friday, August 9 and Saturday, August 10.

The theme for this year’s Founder’s Day is “Alabama’s Bicentennial - Killen Founded on Family”. The theme was chosen to honor the anniversary of our great state and to honor our local community businesses. The grand marshal for the Friday night parade will be Harold Newell who owns Harold’s Body Shop. He will lead the parade on Friday night at 6pm which will run along J.C. Mauldin Highway from Brooks Elementary School to the Foodland Marketplace. There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies presented at the opening ceremonies for the best parade entries.

Opening ceremonies will begin right after in Killen Park at 7:15pm. Friday night entertainment is once again “Bluewater Band” from 8-10pm.

Saturday will be full of activities starting with the 5K Run at 7am at Killen First Baptist Church. There will also be a car show sponsored by the Killen Masonic Lodge 788 which will begin at 8am at Killen Park in the upper parking lot by the tennis courts. The local Boy Scouts will be selling breakfast items.

Other fun activities include the singles and doubles horseshoe tournament, Corn Hole Tournament sponsored by the Corporal Matthew Conley Memorial and a fashion show sponsored by Radiance Boutique. There will be wonderful food with some new additions to include a Dippin Dots, Hamburgers, and a Mexican food booth. There also will be plenty of arts and crafts vendors. We will have blow-ups provided by One Stop Rental for the younger crowd along with an obstacle course. There will be some additional fun things for the younger ones to include balloon animals and face painting.

There will be a drawing at 5pm to give away an AMC Movie Theatre gift package. This includes a $100 gift card, popcorn bucket, and a 50-inch Ultra HD 2160p LED flat-screen TV. Tickets are just $1. This is sponsored by the Killen Public Library.

Musical entertainment on Saturday will run from 3-9pm. Some of the acts this year will be the Midnighters, Haley Crowell, Glenn and Jeff Walton and Joseph Baldwin.

The weekend will close at 9pm with the annual fireworks show sponsored by TNT Fireworks. TNT always puts on a great show and we appreciate their support of our community.

Don’t miss the Killen Block Party!! Bring the entire family and enjoy the fun.
